Stories of everything and nothing else

Ferris Dreams

Illuminated Ferris wheel suspended above Earth with galaxies and stars in space

The sting of a memory’s rain

Blind, blindsided, like a car crash

The hurt leaps back up

Like whiplash

Like coma wash

Like devastation sequel

And the modern moment feels old

As I wait for the new appliance

My glittery mind

All puffed up and racing

It moves like that

Back and forth

From stuck in mud

To the flames of a starship

Had a little bit of sleep

Dreams like a Rorschach test

It looks like a butterfly

Exploding over the sea

I wander into the Bermuda Triangle

Edgy, cold, and bright

Everything feels wrong

But everything feels right

I think I’ve disappeared

I’m lost in space and time

I feel sick in my guts

The nerves like a Ferris wheel

Then it stops at the top

And I can look over the fairgrounds

The countryside all around

Green trees and golden fields

Farms, houses, hearts cracking

Simple, harsh lives etched in earth

And my feelings burst like a balloon

Insides all torn asunder

Then floating back down in confetti pieces

Like silvery wine in a spaceship

With gravity all nonsense now

And there I am in Manitowoc

Wandering around on memory streets

Tree-lined, pink and white bungalows

Black trim, neat yards, flowers poking up near the edges

Of the hedges

Clocks ticking away in quiet spaces inside

The sun hitting just right against a wall

Painting vanished time

In an orange-yellow translucent paint

Everyone lese is gone and it’s only me

Standing there by the picture window

Looking out and wondering

What is the meaning of it all?
