Gracelyn Polk is a young girl trying to survive alone in a world gone wrong. But she’s smart, resourceful, and full of questions about her circumstances. She meets an old man who treats her well and eventually takes her in to live with him in a big house near an eerie cabbage field that seems to possess some kind of power. He counsels her about life and why the world crumbled and together in the end they discover their true purpose.
